How does the Darkness Into Light app work?

Access codes will be sent via email to all registered participants who have chosen to Take Tart in Their Own Way. Please follow the below instructions to access the app once you have received your code: 1. Download the Darkness Into Light app from Google Play or the App Store 2. Input your access code to join, which you will have received via email 3. On Sat May 6th, click "Start" on your app to begin your Darkness Into Light walk or run 4. Walk your the 5k at at your pace - and take in the sights and sounds from the area through our audio guide and incredible augmented reality features, If you wish to run that's fine too. This is YOUR Darkness Into Light 5. The app will automatically stop recording your walk when you hit 5km. 6. Share your activity to your feed with photos from your walk

How long do I have to record my DIL walk/activity?

The walk officially starts at 04.15am in your local area however, you can complete your walk/activity any time you wish during May 6th.

Can I track my run using my wearable device?

Yes, you can track your walk using a wearable device. However, we encourage you to use the built in app tracking to get the full Darkness Into LIght digital experience. If you do wish to use a wearable device, you can do this by connecting your Fitbit, Garmin, Apple Watch or Polar device to the app. Please note, your device must have GPS functionailty to record your walk and sync to the app. To sync your device: 1. Go to the MORE tab and select LINK WEARABLES 2. Select the provider that matches the device you have 3. Login to your existing wearable account 4. Once connected your wearable account will automatically sync with the app 5. Complete your walk, tracking with your wearable device 6. Go to the in-app feed and you will see your activity. 

I need to unlink my Apple Health account. How can I do this?

Please uninstall and reinstall the app. This will automatically disconnect the app from Apple Health. You can then log back in using the same login method.

How do I post my DIL walk to the app feed?

When you complete an activity, you will be prompted to share your activity to the feed. Add a caption or upload photos from your walk and then share to the feed so the rest of the participants can like and comment.

What safety measures should I be aware of?

Remember to: • Wear appropriate clothing and footwear and walk in a well let area • Make sure you’re properly hydrated and don't forget to use your sustainable water bottle • Your safety, and the safety of our community, is our number one priority. Please follow your local govenment guidance around exercise and social distancing • Enjoy yourself!

Can I complete my walk in parts?

No, if you wish the app to capture your walk stats then you must complete your 5KM in one go. Should you stop the walk in the app, any distance recorded up until this point will be lost.

What do I need to participate in the event?

Ensure you have a smartphone with the latest version of the Darkness Into Light app. Please note, the app requires a minimum software of IOS 12 or Android 8. Ensure your phone is fully charged Ensure your phone is NOT on low power mode Ensure your GPS/location is turned on Ensure your location settings for the app are on, and set to "always allow" to ensure your location can accurately track during your activity

My app crashed / my app is frozen. What should I do?

First, try closing out of your app and restarting. This should take you back to the map view, or back into your current activity. If you are still having issues, uninstall the app, and reinstall the latest version of the app directly from the app store.

My location is not tracking in the app. What should I do?

You must ensure your location settings for the app are ON and set to "always allow" Click the "Location Settings" button in the MORE tab to check on this.

Can I create my own team?

No, the teams function is for our charity and corporate partners and runners. These teams have been preallocated and no additional teams can be set up.
