Thanks for your support

Thanks to all the messages of support and generous donations to Pieta House, that many of you made. Over €1,000 has gone to help people in need. Last Saturday morning was lovely - people arriving out of the darkness of the night into the RSC, where the High Hopes Choir sang and the hot air balloon reached into the sky.
Off we set, 3,000 people I heard, most walking with family or friends, some running around the empty streets. Blue lights everywhere, up over the top of the town, the man on Morrison's Ave there with his guitar playing for us at his doorstep, like every year. Over the bridge, yellow lights on both sides of the footpath marking the way. Rescue boats on the water in the dark, like they are every night through the year. Up the quay, out past McDonalds and we're back onto the track. I ran with some of the lads from Mount Sion Secondary School and their teacher Barry who I know from the mountains and parkrun.

The morning was only getting started - I drove straight back out to Tramore to see the sunrise from the Guillamene. Loads of cars parked out there after 5am, like high summer. Tons of people in the water and food and hot drinks for all. The water was flat calm as I got in, a big ball of red appearing after 5.45am or so. Magical. The water was so nice. Out and dried, a bit of a shiver but the hot tea, baking and sausage blaa at 6am was epic!

This year I remember John, as others remember their loved ones, gone too early due to mental health struggles, depression or suicide. This week I was reminded you never know what people are dealing with, as at work we have a program of mental health first responders, which can assist people, in that time of need, or for friends or colleagues who are concerned. Just listening, or talking to someone can be enough. Keep in touch.
