Background - George O'Donnell

Hello, my name is George O'Donnell and I am 18 years old. This is my 4th year taking part in the Darkness Into Light fundraiser.

I am taking part as I believe its really important to spread awareness of mental health problems that people have nationwide/globally.

Many people with these various mental health problems see suicide as an easy, or the only way out, so by raising money, myself and thousands of other fundraisers can help those in need.

If you can't donate, simply asking your friends, family and peers around you how their mental health is and if they are okay, makes a huge difference to them, and also contributes to the same overall endgoal Pieta are aiming for, which is prevention of extreme personal conditions such as self-harm/suicide.

On Saturday, 9th of May, I’ll be taking part in Darkness Into Light 2026. This is a walk that holds deep meaning for so many people, myself included.

I’m walking to show support for those who are struggling right now, to honour those we’ve lost, and to help ensure Pieta can continue to be there for people when they need support most.

Last year, I raised over 250 for Pieta's helpline service, but this year I have doubled my goal to 500€, which I would be more than delighted if I can reach/exceed

To conclude, I am taking part in this lifesaving campaign as from my own personal experience, you really never know what's going on inside someone's head, or what they have going on behind closed doors. By taking part, I am assisting those who need Pieta's spectacular services most, and spreading awareness in general of mental health problems people have around Ireland.

I am proud to be a fundraising member of Pieta's Darkness Into Light campaign, and plan to take part in the next years coming.

Thank you to my Sponsors
