Support my walk to help stop suicide

On Saturday, 9th of May, I’ll be taking part in Darkness Into Light 2026. This is a walk that holds deep meaning for so many people, myself included.

I’m walking to show support for those who are struggling right now, to honour those we’ve lost, and to help ensure Pieta can continue to be there for people when they need support most.

Every step I take is for someone who may feel unseen, unheard, or overwhelmed. It’s my way of saying, “You are not alone. Help is available. There is always light, even when it’s hard to see it.”

If you’re in a position to support my walk, please know that every single euro helps Pieta continue to answer the call and guide people towards hope at some of the darkest moments of their lives.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for being part of this and for supporting me along the way.

My Updates

Thank you, all (and who am I?).

The fundraising portal remains open until late June, I believe. David has been sharing the link, so I know a number of people won't know who I am. I knew Susanne for some 30 years and she went from being a student to a colleague to a boss, and always my friend. She was very fond of that description. She once proclaimed herself my best friend and she was right. In short, she was a student on the programmes I taught in UCD and knew me before I knew her, then she worked with me as an admin and a teacher, which was when we became friends, then when she left UCD to work in NYU and later CAPA she hired me as a guest lecturer and became 'my boss'. But Suz and I were friends first and foremost. The kind you think you'll have forever, as we should have. I miss her every day, but I know that my loss is shallow compared to what David lost in her as a life partner. Suz was also a great friend to my beautiful wife Catherine, who did the walk too and is fully engaged with all of this, but doesn't like to appear on social media and didn't want a separate fundraising page set up, so this serves as a portal for both of us and indeed all of us what came out that morning to bring light to the darkness the way Susanne herself used to do for us all. Thank you to everyone who has continued to donate here. I really hope that Pieta can provide that crucial support to someone that will make a difference in the moment that matters.

Thank you to my Sponsors
