My Updates

A message from our Group Leaders.

For the past four years, we here at Fintan's High School have been working hard to raise awareness about the vital importance of looking after our mental health.

We stand together, committed to breaking down the barriers that prevent open conversation about the challenges and difficulties that many people face.

As a school community, we do our utmost to motivate, support, and help one another. A kind word, a smile, a nod of acknowledgement - these small gestures remind each person that they are seen and thought of. Offering our companionship as we navigate the inevitable ups and downs of life is what being a community is all about.

This Saturday morning, we will be walking together for Darkness into Light, commencing at 4 am. This important event has become a valued part of our school year, and we eagerly anticipate walking alongside you all to demonstrate our care and solidarity. We are here for each other.

The strong bonds formed within our school are something special, and sometimes we need a gentle reminder that we are always here to support one another. As we walk side by side, sharing chats, giggles, and light-hearted banter, we will journey from the darkness into the sunrise.

Remember, there is always a guiding light.

Seek it out. You will find it. Hold onto it. You will find your way through.

Thank you all for your incredible support. We hope that our walk can serve as a powerful reminder to everyone that we care deeply.

Message from our Student Council

The Darkness Into Light walk holds a huge significance for all the lads at St. Fintan’s, as a member of the student council it has allowed me to take part in this Darkness into light this has been a great honour and privilege.

Darkness into light offers us young lads a platform to champion mental health awareness and contribute to such a noble cause. Our objective of the walk is to dismantle any stigma associated with mental health, particularly among young men, and foster a culture of acceptance within our school. By participating in the walk, we all have an aim to send a message of hope to anyone struggling, may be it in our school or wider community, showing our anyone struggling that it's okay to seek support and talk about their struggles.

The tradition for so many of the Sr students to walk together from darkness into light is incredibly important and special to many, as we never know what someone is going through, this walk serves as a beacon of unity and support for all the lads and it helps to bring awareness to such an important cause.

By walking as a group on 11th of may we aim to make lads more comfortable with the idea of talking about our mental health, we walk to remind any lad to ask for help if they need and reach out.

Message from our Senior Hurling Captain 2025

The Darkness Into Light walk has become a real highlight of the year in St. Fintan’s in recent times. It’s an incredibly powerful and meaningful event where senior hurlers, prefects, and student council members come together to make a real difference.

As a senior hurler representing the school, it’s a real privilege to contribute to something so important — raising awareness about mental health and supporting an incredible charity like Pieta House. Highlighting the importance of mental health and normalising conversations around it is something we are passionate about. We are determined to break down the stigma that can often surround young men and mental health, and to create a positive, supportive environment for everyone in our school community. Life will inevitably throw challenges our way, so it’s vital that we all feel comfortable speaking openly about how we are feeling.

There is a very special bond within the senior hurling team. I think every player would agree that being part of the team has been one of the best ways to make new friends and build lasting relationships from the first day of 1st year. We share great memories, whether it’s the craic on the bus to matches or our traditional beach walk before school on game days. Because of that bond, I would hope that if any player was struggling, they would feel comfortable reaching out to a teammate for support.

By walking together on the 10th of May and raising funds for Pieta House, we hope to make a real difference — bringing hope to those who are struggling and encouraging people to know that help is always available when they need it
