Support my walk to help stop suicide

On Saturday, 9th of May, I’ll be taking part in Darkness Into Light 2026. This is a walk that holds deep meaning for so many people, myself included.

I’m walking to show support for those who are struggling right now, to honour those we’ve lost, and to help ensure Pieta can continue to be there for people when they need support most.

Every step I take is for someone who may feel unseen, unheard, or overwhelmed. It’s my way of saying, “You are not alone. Help is available. There is always light, even when it’s hard to see it.”

If you’re in a position to support my walk, please know that every single euro helps Pieta continue to answer the call and guide people towards hope at some of the darkest moments of their lives.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for being part of this and for supporting me along the way.

My Updates

All are welcome

Some of the most significant events or connections in my life have not been planned far in advance. I might be in a conversation with a friend or family member, like my Dad, and within 5 minutes, we have planned a walk up the Spinx of Glendalough. Which then leads to many more trips, some involving hiking, and some are just about ice cream by the upper lake. But even when they seem to be a creature of happenstance, these (re)connections remind me that I am never as alone as I might ever fear myself to be. And how fortunate I am that the people in my life are kind.
I have lived enough to know and understand that this is not always the case for everybody. How important it is to have something else in place to reach out to, to welcome, those for whom the world has gone dark.
For all of the above reasons, I am delighted and humbled to be taking part for the first time ever in Darkness into Light, with two of our daughters. I have been meaning to do this for years. Why this year, why now? Happenstance perhaps. But what an amazing one. The generosity of friends and family has been quite simply out of this world. Hitting over treble my target has been one thing. But the real magic is the comments and stories people have shared when donating. Great cause, close to my heart etc. And then heartbreaking stories of how family members lost loved ones in tragic circumstances. And this then means so much to them. Heartbreaking and heartconnecting all at once.
I’m still learning - God knows, I am still learning - but what I think this all teaches me is - one - all are welcome when walking from darkness into light. Life begins in the dark, but it needs the light to thrive. All the joy, love, heartbreak, sorrow - these stories are who we are, we carry them with us, and whether we share them out loud or not on Saturday, by walking together, we share them. Two - people are kind. Fundamentally, our nature is to be kind (there is a lot written on this - in case people argue this point with you.) Sometimes all you have to do is ask. Three - sometimes asking for help can seem a bridge too far. Which is why Pieta House’s work is so vital. It might build a bridge. Or it might sail to your island. But for those who we might miss, no matter how much we love or look, it is there. If you haven’t donated yet, via me or someone else, please do so now. I will be so grateful. Tomás

Well done Tomás. Everyone has their struggles and if even one donation can help with support it's well worth it. My daughter's brother in law lost his life to suicide despite great family support
